3rd Quarter Update

Its hard to believe we are almost halfway into third quarter! All in all, 2016 has had a great musical start! The ensembles are working on some new challenging music and learning a bunch of new stuff.

Please encourage your students to practice regularly. If 30 minutes a day is impossible, then shoot for a lesser goal - some effort is better than no effort. As I frequently say, "hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard."

7th & 8th Grade Students have a practice assignment due March 1.
Students need to memorize and perform etude # 76, The Entertainer, from "Accent on Achievement book 2." Then, they need to record themselves performing and email me their best "take" before March 1. While I'd prefer a video recording, an audio recording is acceptable. If technology is proving to be a challenge students should contact me or make arrangements to complete their assignment on a school computer.

4th Grade Band has started rehearsals! The full ensemble meets Thursday mornings 11:30-12:15. This ensemble meets in addition to lesson times, and is focused less on individual achievement and more on the mechanics of performing in an ensemble: working together with other musicians and different instruments toward a common performance goal. We'll be performing together at the 4th & 5th grade Spring Showcase Concert on May 5.

Zero Hour -  Jazz (MWF) and Orchestra (T/TH)
The ensemble have been preparing a lot of music. Their regular attendance is appreciated and I'm very pleased with the quality of the musicking we're able to consistently put together. Jazz Ensemble and Orchestra will be having some off campus performances in the future, as a way to reward and recognize their extra efforts and as a means of showing off our school within the community.

Chamber Ensemble Recital March 22
Middle School (6,7,8) band students are working our Chamber ensembles unit. We have an arts partnership with the Copper Street Brass who has been in to visit us demonstrating great chamber group playing and as coaches for some of our LHUC chamber ensemble rehearsals.
Jazz Band will also perform at this concert.

As always, thanks for your support and I'm honored with the opportunity to work with your students. If you have any concerns or suggestions, please don't hesitate to reach out.
